Tarte Cosmetics Brushes for a Flawless Base

If you are someone who has to travel during holiday season, picking outfits ahead of time, packing presents, & packing all your hair, makeup, & skincare products can be a mission. To some people I know it might seem a bit early to speak about the holidays, but it’s already November & Sephora has its holiday gift sets on display. Tarte cosmetics is one of those brands that always has pretty holiday gift sets. This year, I decided to browse through their products online & I really liked some of the tarte cosmetics makeup brushes. The 3 makeup brushes that caught my eye will help you achieve a flawless base, which is important especially during the holidays when you’re taking lots of group pictures & selfies.

$32

This brush is actually on tarte’s best sellers list. It’s dense, which will allow for a full coverage application. It’s also fairly large, which means you can buff your foundation in quicker & it’s supposed to give you an airbrush finish. Quick & easy full coverage = perfect!

$22

Whether I apply liquid or powder foundation, one step that I make sure I don’t skip is brushing through my brows with a spoolie brush. I do this because I already have really dark, full brows & I don’t fill them in unless I’m wearing a lot of eye makeup for a special occasion. Since I don’t do anything to my brows on a regular basis, I go over them with a spoolie brush to make sure the eyebrow hair is brushed through & in one direction instead of being all over the place since my eyebrow hair is long too. It also gets rid of any foundation that I may have buffed on to my eyebrows while applying it & my eyebrows look dark again.

If I was filling in my brows, I would use the angled side of the brush & I know a lot of women would use it for this purpose. However, if you’re someone like me & you already have full brows that you don’t fill in, you can use the angled brush with gel eyeliner to create a classic winged eyeliner look. I also use angled brushes to apply eyeshadow to my lower lashline, so this brush is definitely a winner for me.

$32

Even on days when I’m not wearing a lot of makeup, I love sculpting & defining my cheekbones & this is such a great multi-purpose dual-ended brush for doing that. This brush may be used in a lot of ways depending on your preference of how sharp you like your features to appear. The rounded end may be used to buff out any cream or liquid highlighter. Due to the brush being so dense, you may also use it to pack on a lot of product in the hollows of your cheeks to contour.

The angled end allows for easy product placement. It may be used to buff & blend out any product packed on in the hollows of your cheeks with the rounded end. If you’re not a fan of a really sharp contour, you may use the angled end alone to apply your contour powder lightly & this will give you a more natural contour. This end can also be used to apply blush once you are done contouring.

I love how these brushes would allow me to achieve a perfect base & save room so I can pack all my eye makeup brushes, which I have the hardest time narrowing down. These tarte cosmetics brushes are made from sustainably harvested bamboo. The bamboo handles along with the gold ferrules & densely packed bristles give these brushes a luxurious feel. & who doesn’t want that luxurious feeling during the holidays?

Brown Smokey Eyes & Bold Lips for the Spark Sessions Conference

It's no surprise that I've been slacking at blogging, but you may have noticed that I'm trying to get back into the groove of things. If not, then click either (or both) of the links below that will take you to my recent posts - they will open up in a new window, so you won't be interrupted.

I'm planning on updating the blog regularly starting next week. I have a few ideas for posts, but if you'd like to see something specific, leave a comment below or get in touch through any other social media accounts that you follow me on.

Now that I'm trying to blog more, I thought I'd enter a contest to win a trip to attend the 2014 Spark Sessions Conference, which is Canada's fashion & beauty blogger conference. It's about time I took this blog to the next level & I think that being able to attend the conference would be the perfect opportunity to push me in the right direction.

This is my entry for the contest - a makeup look that I would most likely wear to the conference. Now, this was a bit hard for me because when I travel I usually I tend to pack way more products than I would need & do my makeup depending on my mood that day. Am I the only one who does this?

The look that I decided on was a smokey brown eye, winged black eyeliner, falsies, lots of mascara on my bottom lashes, & bold red lips. It's classic & it would go with any outfit. The look is quite dramatic so I filled in my eyebrows slightly to pull the look together.
& of course, I can't forget the heavily contoured & highlighted cheeks. It's my favourite part! Although, I will have to remind myself to go easy with contouring & highlighting my cheekbones - that's one thing I tend to go a bit overboard with.

Do you think I should add some colour to the look if I win? *fingers crossed*

Eid-ul-Fitr 2014 makeup look

This Eid I won't be getting as dolled up as I usually do, so I thought I'd post the makeup look that I did on Eid-ul-Fitr this year. It was my first time stepping outside my house wearing winged eyeliner on the inner corners of my eyes. Usually I rub/scratch the inner corners of my eyes when I'm tired so I've always been slightly afraid that I'll rub it off, but luckily that didn't happen - phew!

Winks:
Eyeshadow primer: Too Faced shadow insurance
all eyeshadows used are from the Urban Decay (original) Naked palette
Under brow + tearduct: Virgin
Browbone: Buck
Lid + inner 2/3 of lower lashline: Half Baked
Outer 1/3 of lid: Smog (applied over Half Baked)
Crease: Hustle & Darkhorse
Outer 1/3 of lower lashline: Hustle
Upper lashline + tightline: Mary Kay gel eyeliner in Jet Black
Waterline: Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in 005 Nude
Lashes: L'Oreal Voluminous Original (upper & lower lashes)
Falsies: Huda Beauty lashes in 01 Giselle

Face:
Revlon Colorstay foundation for combination/oily skin in 250 Fresh Beige
Maybelline Fit Me concealer in 25 Medium (under my eyes & around my nose + mouth)
e.l.f. High Definition Powder in Clear (to set my concealer & the areas where I get oily)
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder in Original Chocolate (to contour my cheeks, jawline, & temples)
Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in 129 Tiki (cheekbones)

Kisses:

Coral Lips at the Shooting Range

I went to a shooting range 5 months ago (April) & I wanted to keep my makeup light for the occasion. I went with lots of mascara, a bright inner corner/tearduct area, slightly contoured cheeks, & a light coral lip.

Usually I prefer matte lips, but since the rest of the look was simple, I decided to try out some coral lippies sent by Mary Kay's PR to add a pop of colour. The names of these products are so cute!

I lightly applied the Mary Kay At Play lip crayon in Coral Me Crazy. This lip crayon has a lot of shimmer & I don't like shimmer in my lip products at all. The lip crayon also made the dry patches of my lips stand out more.
So I decided to top off that lip crayon with a bit of the Mary Kay At Play jelly lip gloss in Poppy Love in hopes of toning down the dryness. I loved this jelly lip gloss right away. It made my lips look 5 times better than when I just wore the lip crayon alone. The jelly lip gloss is a bit sheer, so it added the right amount of colour (& would look gorgeous when worn alone). The gloss is also a bit sticky though, but it was not uncomfortable.

This combo stayed on my lips for about 4 hours. When everything wore off, the shimmers from the lip crayon stayed behind, which I wasn't a fan of. Both products are buildable, which I really like. I think the lip crayon would look nice by itself on light skintones - just make sure you exfoliate your lips before applying it though.

Do you tone down your makeup looks depending on where you're going?  I find that I've started doing that a lot.

P.S. I posted this look/products on Instagram the night these pics were originally taken - months ago. Click here to see that pic. I'm def way more active on Instagram, so follow me there for more updates.

My 1st Apothica.com Haul (Nov 2011)

If you look at my sidebar, there's an ad for an online cosmetics company called Apothica. A few months ago I got a few items from there, so I thought I'd do a little review.  Before I start, I'd like to add that even though the company advertises on my blog, my opinion in this post hasn't been swayed by that.

I had browsed through the site before I let them advertise on my blog to ensure that the site was selling products that I would be interested in purchasing myself & I was pleased with their selection. When it was time for me to purchase, however, I noticed was that a lot of the products could only be shipped within the U.S., which was a bit disappointing. Even though this meant that I couldn't order the Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector that I wanted to try so badly, I still managed to find a lot of things that I wanted to get.
Here are the items that I ended up checking out with:
  • Too Faced Smokey Eye Palette 2011 (I got 2 - 1 for myself & the other as a present)
  • Too Faced Natural Eye Kit
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eyeshadow Primer
  • Too Faced Teddy Bear Hair Mini Brush Set
  • Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten in Roseberry
  • Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick in #25 Soft Beige
  • Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick in #23 Luscious Pink

I used the coupon code PACK10 for 10% off my purchase + the shipping charge was a little over $25, which brought my total to around $256. I kept checking my account & they took 12 days to just get the stuff together & ship it, which annoyed me a bit. After they sent the items out, it received it in a little over a week. Once the mail lady arrived at my door with the parcel, I also had to pay a little over $27 for customs. If I lived in the U.S. (it takes me 30 minutes to cross the border), I would have avoided the custom charges & the shipping charges as well since shipping to a U.S. postal address is free when your order is over $49. So if I lived in the U.S. I would have saved over $50 & would have probably purchased something else with that money.

Moving on, the items itself were packaged very well & none of them were damaged. I noticed that 2 of the items (the brush set & the Natural Eye Kit) were back-ordered & one of the YSL #23 lipstick could not be shipped so the money for it was refunded. I found it really weird that the site let me check out with the lipstick when it couldn't be shipped to Canada.
The brush set & the Natural Eye kit arrived later. I was upset when I noticed that the eyeshadows had already been swatched before since I could clearly see shimmery fingerprints in the matte eyeshadows. The next morning, I got on the phone & spoke with someone from Apothica & they sent a new palette out right away. The lady on the phone was polite & quick, which I liked.

Once again, I love some of the items on the site & they are priced competitively. If you see an item listed for a lower price on another site, get on the phone & Apothica will match the price for you! Their customer service is great. The negatives are that the wait time after you order items is a bit long if you don't live in the U.S. & that online shopping makes me wish I lived in the U.S. If you're already living there then this would be a good site to shop from.

I plan on reviewing some of the items that I bought, which is why I've just included small pics for now. I thought I'd do a 1st experience/haul post since I advertise their site, so I wanted my readers to know about my experience with the company.
Hope those who are planning on purchasing from Apothica.com found this review helpful.

My 10 Favourite Beauty Products

I was nominated for the Top 10 Award by LaaLaa Monroe from DolceVanity.com a while ago. I don't usually like to have the awards that I was nominated for displayed on my blog, but I thought this tag is a nice idea for a blog post, so here it is!

This is a post on my 10 favourite beauty products so far & these are products that I happen to reach for all the time. Please note that these do not include beauty tools. It doesn't even include eyeshadows because I don't wear eyeshadows on a regular basis. These are just some basic beauty products.

For the lips...

  • C.O. Bigelow's Rose Salve:
This is what I use as my everyday lip balm. I have an older one of this salve, which I used to apply with my fingers & since that got a bit old, I have saved that just to use on dry skin or on my cuticles once in a while. I also used to get dry patches around my eye that came back every few months, but ever since I used rose salve on the dry spots, they haven't returned.
  • Revlon's Matte Lipstick in 009 Fabulous Fig:
My fav shade of red. Although I don't use it in the summer because it's a brown-ish red & tends to show up a bit dark on me in the summer, I love how this looks on me in Fall, Winter, & most of Spring.

For the eyes...

  • Urban Decay's Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion:
Over the past few years my eyelids have started to get oily, especially when I'm tired. This primer stops my eyeshadow from creasing. At times I apply a bit of this primer on my eyelids even when I'm not using any eyeshadow because it helps prevent my eyelids from getting oily.
  • Annabelle's Smudgeliner in Electric Sapphire:
This is one of the very few blue eyeliners that show up well on my medium skin tone & I love using it when I'm sick of wearing the usual black eyeliner.
  • Lancome's Hypnose mascara:
I usually don't splurge on mascara since you should be replacing your mascaras every 3 months & there are some drugstore mascaras that are amazing, but this mascara is definitely worth the hype. It's really black & it gives my lashes length & volume without clumping or flaking.
  • Annabelle's Liquid Eyeliner in Black Out:
I've never come across a liquid eyeliner that's so matte. The pen brush tip allows easy application & is helpful when you're trying to wing your eyeliner as well.

For the body & hair...

  • True Blue Spa's Refreshing Citrus Body Scrub - Need a Margarita:
I've used this myself & I like it so much that I've given it as a present too. It leaves my skin so soft & I don't feel the need to apply lotion after I use this scrub since it's so moisturizing. My scrub has turned yellow for some reason (maybe because I've had it for a while?), but it hasn't gone bad.
  • True Blue Spa's Shea Cashmere & Silk Body Cream:
This cream has a light butterscotch & vanilla kind of scent. It's not as light as a lotion but not as heavy as a cream either, so it applies smoothly. It leaves a light scent on my skin, which I love. Whenever I've taken out this cream to reapply it & my male friends were around, they complimented me on the scent & a few of them accepted my offer to try it out too!
  • Bath & Body Works Signature Collection's Eau de Toilette in Blushing Cherry Blossom:
This scent is good all year around. It isn't too heavy for the summer or too light for winter. It's priced well as compared to other perfumes that size. I like carrying this in my purse for the times when I'm in a rush & forget to apply perfume before stepping out. This particular fragrance might be discontinued though because I don't see it on the Bath & Body Works' website, but no worries.. they have tons of other fragrances that you can choose from.
  • Hana Shine Shield Thermal Protectant:
Ever since I stopped following up my blow drying routine with my flat iron I've noticed that my hair is fine the day I style it, but at times the next day it doesn't want to cooperate. When I use this protectant though, my hair holds up even the next day & it gives my hair a nice shine.

I love these 10 products! I have linked the products to their respective sites. The packaging for 2 of the products has changed, but it's the same product.

What are your favourite beauty products? Have you tried anything that's on my 10 fav beauty products list?

UD Naked Palette from TheShoppingChannel.com (Canada)

There are plenty of reviews & swatches available online for the oh-so-popular Naked palette by Urban Decay, so I'm not going to be doing a review/swatch for this palette. Instead I will be posting about where I got this palette from in Canada.

I wanted to purchase this palette as a present, but all the Sephora's I called &/or visited were sold out. I'm not really an online shopper so I avoided looking online, but (since the closest Sephora is approximately a 45 minute drive away from me) I finally gave in & decided to look it up online.

The website that I found had the best deal is TheShoppingChannel.com. The palette was listed as $58 and it qualified for free standard shipping & handling, however, with taxes the total came up to $65.54 CAD.

I placed my order on Saturday, November 12th & received my parcel on Tuesday, November15th. The palette was not wrapped in bubble wrap, which concerned me a little but when I reached for the palette I realized that the minimal packaging was sufficient to hold the palette in place. Other things included with the palette were: a brochure on Himalayan Gems sold on the website, a brochure on the site's return policy, & my order summary along with postage stickers that I can place on the package in case I want to send the palette back for an exchange or return. I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the site and the service.

I could have also bought this palette through Sephora's website, which sells the palette for $58 as well, but the standard shipping costs $9.95, which would bring my total to $67.95 CAD. Also, Sephora lists their processing time as 1-2 business days & their delivery time as 6-12 business days. In other words, TheShoppingChannel.com was a better deal for me.

Although, it still annoys me that the palette costs $48 USD in the U.S., especially since I live 30 minutes away from the border. The CAD is stronger yet Canadians have to pay more for the UD Naked palette & our taxes are higher as well!

Have you been able to purchase the Naked palette by Urban Decay yet?
If so, where did you get yours from?

DiorShow mascara, Beauty Blender, & MAC on Apothica.com?

I ended up browsing through the makeup on Apothica.com on one of my study breaks & I found out that they have a lot more products for sale besides the brands that are listed on their makeup brands page. I found so many goodies including the popular DiorShow mascara, the Beauty Blender, & MAC lipglosses. But if you click Christian Dior Makeup on the makeup brands page, it will take you to a page that says error. If you search Beauty Blender or MAC, the search shows no results. Then how did I find these products??

Since I have the link to Apothica in my sidebar, I thought I'd do this post on how to navigate the site to achieve the best results & find tons of awesome products. Keep reading to find out how you can navigate the site in a better way in order to find these products yourself!

Christian Dior Makeup DiorShow Mascara Waterproof #090 Black

Givenchy Lip Lip Lip! Lipstick #313 Blushing Red (Extreme)

Beauty Blender

MAC Lip Glass Lip Gloss Magnetique

Benefit Moon Beam Iridescent Complexion Enhancer

OPI Nail Lacquer #A20 La Paz-Itively Hot - Matte Nail Polish

CHANEL Quatuor Boutons De Chanel Les Folies Noires

After looking at some of these products you might be wondering why you didn't find them while you were browsing the site. Well, I'm here to share how.
Instead of searching for makeup by trying to look up the brand name, I suggest you click Makeup (on the horizontal menu). Then when the makeup page shows up, select See All Links under PRODUCT TYPE (in the vertical menu on the left). You will be overwhelmed by the amount of products & popular brands in each sub-category under PRODUCT TYPE. Select a sub-category (for example, bronzers, lip gloss, mascara, primer, etc.). That's exactly how I found these goodies!

By the way, all the products above have been linked to their respective page so you don't have to browse through tons of pages. Just click the image & it will take you to the products' page directly & you can add it to your cart.

Happy Shopping ;)

Coastal Scents 88 palettes: *NEW - Metal Mania* or Warm?

A week ago I was browsing through Coastal Scents' website & saw a new finished palette: 88 Metal Mania. This palette reminded me of the 88 Warm Palette. Only difference is that I never thought much of the 88 Warm Palette from looking at pictures of the palette. I thought the 88 Warm Palette had way too many light colours & too many browns, which didn't interest me at all. It seemed like a boring palette to me, to be honest.

Image from Coastal Scents' website
Fast forward to a week ago. When I saw the 88 Metal Mania Palette, I fell in love.
It has the right amount of highlight, gold, brown, black, green, purple/plum, red, & orange shades. When I do a neutral eye, there's this plum-brown eyeshadow that I usually grab instead of just a brown eyeshadow.
The 88 Metal Mania Palette doesn't have colours that are too bright, so they're great for everyday wear. But if you want to use this palette for a night-out look, there are enough colours to experiment with to pull off a smokey eye or some other non-neutral look as well!
Now even though I still want the 88 Piece Makeup Palette, I have my eye on the Metal Mania Palette as well.

Note: I do not own the palettes but I've heard rave reviews about the 88 Piece Makeup Palette & the 88 Warm Palette, seen swatches, & viewed videos in which the eyeshadows from these palettes have been used.

From looking at the pictures, which 88 palette do you prefer: the new Metal Mania or Warm?

My Wishlist

The consumer culture that we live in is our worst enemy. Companies push products out constantly! In order to entice people to buy them, PR firms, marketing agencies, & tons of ads are produced. Celebrities that the common people look up to are used to endorse products. The result? People wishing to buy products that they can't afford to, which can lead to consumer debt!

It's not that we don't recognize that the media is bombarding us with ads for products that we "need". In my opinion, it's just that to this date, our generations have not effectively learned how to critically analyze what the media tells us from a young age. So we find ourselves trapped in a culture where most of us want to live the luxurious lifestyles that we see celebrities living, but we just don't have the money to.

I find myself trapped in such a consumer culture.

This summer I plan on vacationing in Dubai, U.A.E & in a few cities in India. I've started thinking of what I want to take on my trip & I have to say.. whoever came up with the concept of traveling light must have been crazy! Haha, okay definitely not crazy.. in fact, they must have been very smart because I've already realized that traveling light is probably one of the hardest things to do! I mean, look at the amount of things that I have on my wishlist already..

Make Up For Ever High Definition Powder
The MUFE HD Powder is on top of my list because this year is going to be an exciting one. Not only am I planning on vacationing at the end of the summer, but this summer my best friend is getting married as well! How does any of this relate to the HD Powder?
Well, right now I am SO pale because of winter, but by my friends wedding I am hoping to achieve a light tan so that my skin looks healthy once again. Right after the wedding, I'll take off to countries with extreme temperatures & I will get super tanned! & then back to the chilly nights in Canada. Since my skin colour will be changing a lot, I don't want to worry about having to carry around foundations or face powders in different colours. How much of a hassle would that be? The MUFE HD Powder would be great because it can be used on all skin colours! Yup, you read that right! It will make life much easier + I've heard great things about it, so I can't wait to try this one out.

Canon Powershot S90

Wedding + vacation = tons of pictures! Isn't that a bit too obvious? I currently own a Sony CyberShot & Nikon P80. The Nikon is big to carry around at all times & the Sony is old, so I've been looking for a new compact point-&-shoot camera & so far the Canon Powershot S90 looks promising.

Aldo gladiators in Chantha (black synthetic)
Summer vacationing means a lot of walking around & for that I'll need comfy shoes. These ones at Aldo are stylish, yet practical.

Sunglasses
I never buy expensive glasses. I'm one of those people who likes changing things up all the time, so usually each summer I buy 2 pairs of sunglasses. This year, I want to buy a good pair because I get headaches easily in the summer. I LOVE these Louis Vuitton ones, but I don't think I'm willing to spend that much on sunglasses just yet.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
Ever since the first time that I used an eyelash curler, I've used it every day (with the exception of a few days of course)! It's definitely a staple in my make-up routine/bag. I've heard rave reviews about the Shu Uemura & Shiseido eyelash curlers, so I'd love to try one of those. I know they're a bit pricey, but for something that you use everyday & it doesn't pinch your skin or give you bent/L-shaped eyelashes, they would definitely be worth the price.

Z-Palette (large)
I cannot express how convenient this product is! Not only can you depot all your eyeshadows into one magnetic palette, but the cover is clear so you can see what's in the palette without having to add extra labels or open the palette to see what's inside. So it's obvious why I want one of these especially while traveling. You can either put all your depotted shadows in a palette, or make a palette with your face powder, blush, (neutral) eyeshadows, etc. all in one palette that you can carry around with you everyday. The Z palette comes in 3 different colours: black, pink, & a zebra print. I want 2 of these palettes & the colours that I would choose would be black & the zebra print.

Evian Facial Spray

The summer can easily make you tired. What better way to pick you up than a facial spray? I have a picture of the Evian spray up, which is in an aerosol can but I would love to get a facial mist that comes in a spray bottle so I can customize it by adding a few drops of peppermint oil, lemon juice, & other oils as well.

Hype Mia Tote in Aztec 2 or Smoke
No girl can have enough bags, but I fell in love with this tote as soon as I saw it. Too bad it was for $270 & there was no way I was paying that much especially since I knew nothing about the brand. The colour that I saw in the store was the one above & it's called Aztec 2, however, since it's so bright & wont match with everything I'd probably get it in the colour Smoke. I want a bag that will match most outfits & I want it to be exactly like that: with smaller handles but I can wear it with the strap across my body as well. I want a bag so big so that I can carry everything with me including my sunglasses, facial spray, bottled water, camera, mini makeup pouch, & whatever else I think I might need.

Swarovski:
Stonehenge Black Diamond Mini Pendant
Holy Night Pierced Earrings

I love how casual the pendant is. I've seen the larger one on a black string & it looks gorgeous. The one I have above comes with a chain (for a more formal look) or a black string (that will give the pendant a very casual look). I want something that I can wear most of the time & I love how chic this one looks.
I've neglected my big earrings ever since I've started university & even though I'm not a big fan of star earrings, these caught my eye because they're perfect for everyday wear. Usually when I find a pair of earrings that I like, I stick to them till I wear them out. Currently, I sport diamond-like studs every day. It gets boring, but I have them out on my dresser & just put them on every morning.

Valentino Watch
I can't get this Valentino watch out of my head. It's just so pretty! It's not very practical since you might not be able to tell the time because of the small dial, but it's too cute to pass. Plus, I've been getting into watches lately since I wear one everyday now, so any sexy watch would probably make it on my wishlist!

OPI Nail Lacquer in Done Out in Deco
I have the small, sample size bottle in this & I love the shade. It's a beautiful dusty lavender shade. If you're familiar with OPI nail lacquers, it's a little darker that Do You Lilac It? A lot of people love Do You Lilac It? but I think Done Out in Deco suits my skin tone better. Plus, it's the perfect shade for spring!

Lancome Hypnose Mascara
I highly doubt that I'll be wearing a lot of makeup in a lot of heat, so I'll opt for fresh looks instead & for that a good mascara is a must! Lancome's Hypnose is said to be one of the best mascaras on the market, which is why it made it on my list.

Blush Brushes: Angled & Retractable
If you asked me about one beauty product that I cannot live without, it would be blush! So it should come as no surprise that a good blush brush is important as well. The blush brush that I currently use is from a Sephora travel set. I love it & in order to protect the bristles from going bad or bending, I still put the plastic covering on the brush after each use.. crazy, I know! That's why I would love to have a good, soft, retractable blush brush. If it's angled, it would be even better, or I could probably just get an angled one to keep at home.

MAC Blacktrack Fluidline gel liner

I've heard so much about gel & creme eyeliners, but I've never used them. I've heard they last really long, which is great in the hot weather when you feel like all your makeup is melting off your face, haha!

Angled Eyeliner Brush
If I get a gel or creme eyeliner, I'll need an eyeliner brush as well & I've heard that the angled brushes are easier to use.

NARS blush
I ♥ blush! & that's why I'd like to try NARS, since it's supposed to be AMAZING. The colours that I would like to try would be (in no particular order) Outlaw, Amour, Dolce Vita, Lovejoy, Sin, & Oasis. Yes, it's a pricey product again but if a little goes a long way, then it's worth it!

Urban Decay Primer Potion

For the times when I do wear eyeshadow, I'll probably need UDPP to stop my eyeshadows from creasing. I don't have that problem now & it usually takes hours before my eyeshadow creases, but I think it might be a problem in the heat.

Coastal Scents 88 matte palette
& lastly, for those special occasions when I need a full makeup face, I'd like to have every eyeshadow colour possible on my hands. Since I don't want to be traveling with a gazillion eyeshadows & a lot of palettes filled with depotted eyeshadows, I'd love to take this palette with me!

& that's it.. for now! Told you my wishlist was long.

So do you believe that hegemonic ideas, which tell people what products to buy in order to portray a certain image of themselves have taken over our lives? On a less serious note, what are some products that you're itching to get your hands on?

Beauty Tip: When in Doubt, Always Apply Mascara

Have you ever wanted your eyes to look/appear bigger? Or have you ever wanted to make your eyes open up? Has anyone ever suggested that you use mascara to achieve this? I'm here to show you that mascara does in fact open up your eyes & make them appear bigger. That's right, SHOW not tell. After these pictures, I'm sure most of you will agree with me that...

When in doubt, always use mascara.

Here I've added 2 pictures to show you the difference when you apply mascara & when you don't. By the way, I didn't curl my eyelashes.
Did I really need 2 pictures to prove the same point? Definitely not. But I wanted to show my readers that you can tell the difference not only in a clear picture that's taken with the flash on, but you can also see the difference in a picture that's a bit blurry because it was taken without the flash. & which eye looks better in both pictures? No doubt, the one with mascara on, right?

When I apply mascara, I always start from the outer corner & work my way inward. This way most of the mascara gets used on the outer corners & as I work my way to the inner corners, the mascara on the wand decreases, making the corner lashes appear longer. & of course it also helps that I'm wearing one of my favourite mascara's, so my lashes really stand out even though I have a lot of eye makeup on.

Finding your favourite mascara(s) is not an easy task. Warning: Be careful not to fall for cute packaging. Also, when you read reviews online or hear about the product from others, make sure that you understand what the mascara does most: thickens/volumizes, lengthens, &/or curls. Some people have long eyelashes & want their lashes to appear fuller & not necessarily any longer than they already are, so a mascara like Maybelline's Lash Stiletto is not the best mascara to use because Lash Stiletto mainly lengthens.

Now for a full face picture to show you the overall look when I applied mascara on one eye, as compared to the other eye without mascara on.
As you can tell, you can really see the difference. So readers, find a mascara that really suits you & your lashes & do not skip your mascara! Even when you think you're wearing really dark eye shadow & thick eyeliner & you think it wont really show, put it on anyway, especially if you're going to be taking pictures. You might think it won't really show, but it will.

In the full face picture in this post can you tell what else is different on one side of the face as compared to the other side? Take a closer look. On the side that I have mascara on, I also applied blush. Like I've mentioned before, my camera doesn't seem to pick up the colour of my blush unless my blush is really dark (& I look like a clown in person), but you still might be able to see the difference if you look close enough. Blush is another one of my favourite products that I cant seem to leave behind. When the right colour of blush is chosen & applied properly, blush gives you a naturally flushed look & balances your whole look (especially when you have really bold eyes or really bold lips going on).

Anyway, getting back on track... one beauty tool that I cannot live without is my eyelash curler, but no look is complete without mascara. So when in doubt, always apply mascara.

Prizes from Miss Yaya

I got prizes from Miss Yaya yesterday. I was gonna post this yesterday but ran out of time. I won these prizes for entering 2 of her contests: the do's & don'ts in beauty contest and the doll contest. Here are pics of all the goodies from the box.

R: participation prize for the doll contest
I haven't tried everything out yet, but I like the stuff I tried/swatched. My fave item from the bunch is the Beauty Rush by Victoria Secret lipgloss in Peach Buzz, which has little sparkles in it. It's not a colour that I would usually pick up since I usually stick to brown shades, but I love it. It's thick & you can def feel it when it's on your lips, but it's not sticky. It also smells just like peaches & it's a bit strong (so much that my mum could smell it once I put it on & went downstairs to see her). I love, love, love it.

I really liked the other lipgloss as well. It's the one with the lightning bolt on the lid. I forgot the brand/shade, but it's a pink shade that smells like coconut. There was also an Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On eye pencil in Plum. I swatched it & it goes on very smoothly + the colour is gorgeous. Can't wait to use the eye pencil. The last thing that I swatched is the Too Faced pink leopard bronzing powder. At first I didn't feel like using it because it was so pretty when I opened it, but I actually have it on right now. I might add a pic to show you how it looks like later on.

So, I like everything that I tried so far. Thanks Yaya :)

Opening packages is so exciting, especially at times when you don't know what's going to be in there. & for me, I've never really tried expensive brands. Like I've mentioned before, I recently started loving makeup as much as I do right now, so I was experimenting with drugstore brands so far. By entering amazing contests I have had the chance to experiment with my looks & bring out the creative side of me that doesn't show that much during the school year when I'm mostly behind books. It has also allowed me to try out some brands that I had heard of a lot but had never had the chance to try or just couldn't/didn't want to spend that much money on.

I've also had the chance to try out products by Physicians Formula. Here are the recent products that were added to my makeup collection: concealer twins, eye definer felt-tip eye marker, & an organic wear lipstick.

I now have a total of 5 Physicians Formula products in my collection & I really dislike one of the products & I think it's a real shame considering how expensive Physicians Formula products are. I'm thinking of doing a review on them sometime soon. But till then I'm going to enjoy the new makeup that I received.

CdM Contest Prizes

I got a package in the mail yesterday. It wouldn't fit in my mailbox, so the mail lady slipped in a key to a bigger mailbox that held my package. I felt special while opening the big mailbox that most people would never get access to, hehe. This package was from Linda since I came in 2nd place with my Cinco de Mayo contest entry.

Everything is so cute. I can't wait to try it all out, especially the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics pigments. I've heard so much about them.

Thanks Linda :)

Beauty Tip: Don't rush while applying makeup

Tarantulash, mascara on the eyelids, makeup not blended, et cetera are all beauty don'ts, but it's not rare to go to the mall (or anywhere really) & spot people going against these beauty guidelines. My conclusion is that people rush while applying makeup & don't have enough time to apply makeup properly. So my advice is pretty simple: do give yourself enough time to apply your makeup well. If you don't have enough time, keep your makeup minimal & perfect that look instead of trying to go all out on a look that you might not be able to complete.

Once again, my suggestion is pretty simple: give yourself enough time to apply your makeup well.I know, I can be such a dork at times. Hehe.

Btw, this is also an entry for Miss Yaya's Oh No (s)He Didn't contest. Don't know if it qualifies, but I had fun doing it anyway :)
